New in this version
A real satchel. The Journal's Satchel shows everything Ash carries. Buns, peppers, taffy and other supplies help in a pinch: buy them from a shop's Supplies list or find them in chests. Star one to put it in the quick slot under the ROAR ring, then press V, tap it or press left on the d-pad to use it. One per boss fight (two on Easy).
Fewer touch buttons. DRINK, ROAR and CALL show up only when they can help. Tap the weapon chip at the top to switch weapons. Settings has Show every button for the full set.
Village gates. Emberhollow's gates are shut until Ash opens them. Walk up and press the action button.
One button. Attack also talks, opens doors and chests and picks things up when no foe is close. On touch, SLASH says what it will do.
Left-handed play. Settings has Handed: Left: mirrored touch buttons, a left-handed keyboard and southpaw controllers.
Tips you can close. Every tip has an X, and Settings can turn them off.
More weapons. Each one fights in its own way. Tap the weapon chip, or press X, to switch.
Skills. Every level gives you a skill point. The Powers page shows the powers you have found and how to use them.
Companions. Friends can join you. They follow you, fight with you and chat. People in town notice what you do.
Controllers. PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo controllers work everywhere, even in menus. Settings can go fullscreen for a TV.
Surviving the wild
Follow the gold marker on the minimap and compass to your quest.
Rest at dragon shrines to heal, refill draughts and save. You can fast travel between shrines you have found.
Swings, rolls and sprinting cost stamina. Back off and let it refill.
Red shapes on the ground show where an attack will land.
Hold fire breath on lanterns to light them. Fire also melts snowmen, smokes out bees, and lights fireplaces.
A gold ! means someone has a quest for you. A blue ? means they're waiting for something you have.
Walk up to any door or cave and use it to go inside. Smash pots for coins.
Night is darker and wolves hunt. Chests hold experience for leveling up.
Bog water slows you down. Snow slows you a little too.
Slash a fire bolt to send it back. Knights block from the front.
